Filter Cartridges Care Guide

Filter Cartridges Care Guide

Filter Cartridge cleaning instructions for chlorine users using IMMERSE cartridge cleaner:

NB: Eco Pur filters should never be cleaned in a filter cleaning solution but just rinsed and will need replacing on average every 6 months as the active ingredients start to loose their potency although the filter still functions

.

The life of a Filter Cartridge depends upon the hot tub owner. Filter cartridge elements will show maximum longevity with proper care and maintenance. Here are some helpful hints to help you get the most out of your hot tub filters.

Filter cartridge elements must be cleaned regularly (once a month on average) with normal spa use. With heavy use, they will need to be cleaned more often.

Turn Spa off. Never have the spa running when removing your filters as debris can be pulled through into the equipment causing unwarranted damage. Once your filters have been cleaned, dried out and fitted back in the spa, you can then turn the power  to the spa back on.

The best indications of a ‘soiled’ or ‘loaded’ filter cartridge in need of cleaning is a decrease in the systems water flow rate that often results in a low flow message on the control panel or a complete shut down. Generally an increase in pressure of 10 pounds per square inch (PSI) or greater above the filters normal operating pressure (as prescribed in the manufacturer’s owners manual) indicates the need to clean the cartridge.

The filter cartridge can be cleansed of coarse dirt and debris by pressure washing inside and out with a garden hose. Fine particles of dirt are more easily removed from the filter pleats when the cartridge is dry. Therefore after hosing the cartridge, allow the filter to dry thoroughly and then CAREFULLY BRUSH, but do not scrub the pleated surface areas; or apply a stream of compressed air to the filter’s outer surfaces to remove fine particles.

It is vital the filter is allowed to dry as this allows the material to ‘fluff up’ ensuring correct flow and particle retention. Filters going back into water before they have dried can close up, quickly blocking again leading to flow problems.

Algae, suntan oil, and body oils can form a coating on the filter pleats which may not be thoroughly removed by hosing. Such a film of algae and/or oils will rapidly clog up the filter’s pores thereby greatly reducing filtration. Therefore it is imperative to remove such materials from the filter element as soon as possible. We recommend soaking the cartridge in a solution of IMMERSE filter element cleaner to degrease and remove algae and/or oils from the filter media. Follow the directions on the package for the proper use of the cleaning solution. Leave to soak overnight and then hose the cartridge thoroughly before allowing to dry. If clogging persists due to calcium deposits re-adjustment of water chemistry is necessary to combat the problem.

When you clean your filters in a Spa with twin filter sets always alternate the positions.

A spare ‘stand by’ filter cartridge/s is a sensible decision. It provides convenience and a well maintained clean cartridge assures you that your filter will always be ready to operate at peak efficiency.
